Merry Christmas to all! We hope you are having a wonderful holiday. As we close out this year, we are getting ready to make pottery for the coming seasons of the church year.
Some dates to remember:
February 22, 2012 Ash Wednesday
April 1, 2012 Palm Sunday
April 6, 2012 Good Friday
April 8, 2012 Easter Sunday
The period from now until Easter is our busiest time of the year. After catching up a bit on items we are low on, we will start to stock up on Memorial glaze pieces, as they are widely used for Lent. See Memorial.
Remember to allow extra time for our special order items like Ciboria, Pouring Chalices, Host Boxes, Intinctoria, etc. Six weeks is the usual lead time. On this page you will see the list of available items and a link to those in current supply.
Red communionware is available in limited ready supply, and more can be special ordered.

Some personal news about our plans . . .
Our present home/business property is for sale. We are hoping to move closer to our son and his family, and set up a pottery studio there. We have about 4 acres of commercial property just southeast of Akron, Ohio, with house, barn, and garage. Hello Clergy Friends,
We are very happy to introduce a new pottery communionware design for 2011. Over the years, we have had many requests for various colors of glaze, the foremost among them being RED. It is difficult to achieve a good lead-free red in the stoneware range, but our supplier has come up with a very nice semi-translucent medium red stoneware glaze which is safe to use, and we are giving it a try on certain pieces this year. Delivery will be in time for use at your communion table on Pentecost, June 12th.
These will be available on a special order basis only, and will be shipped the first week in June 2011. Only a limited number can be produced (we still have only one potter!) To reserve your set, please order early, as we will need to cut off orders when we have reached our limit.

Dear Clergy Friends,
World Communion Sunday is coming up on October 3rd. This yearly event is very dear to us. We have been so blessed to have found our way into this communionware vocation, and we sense the connection to all those who use in worship the vessels we have made with God's help. A true sense of communion is in our hearts, especially on that day.

Dear Friends,
Every day at this time of year we all encounter ads relating to the Graduate. Since our life and work is so closely associated with churches and clergy, seminary graduation is what we're most connected with. All the hype about graduation gifts we encounter seems so frivolous by comparison - little bears wearing mortar boards, balloons and confetti and gifts in your choice of gadgets, toys, beauty or pop culture themes! Probably not what the average seminary graduate has in mind.
Ocepek Pottery can offer something more appropriate for this special person. For someone on their way to serving in the church as a minister, dedicating their future to Christ, we have some nice communion sets in both congregational and travel sizes.

Hello Dear Friends,
Quick reminder about our wheel-thrown communion pottery.
Every year, about a week before Easter, we get calls from folks who just realized they need to replace, or add, a chalice or paten right away in time for Holy Week. But since this is our busiest time, often times by then we have run out of the item they need.
Easter is now only six weeks away and we are taking the final special orders this week. Regular items like chalices, patens, flagons, travel items, are being made and will continue to be available as long as the supply holds out. Special order items (pouring chalices, ciboria, host boxes, baptismal bowls, dish patens, intinction servers, candle holders - see Special Order Items) have a six week lead time which puts us right at Holy Week. Multiples of the Upper Room Set (Upper Room Set ) if needed by Maundy Thursday, must also be ordered this week, by February 20th, in order to arrive in time.
Also, we wanted to let you know about a new combination we have created. We've had several customers create this selection of individual pieces: Full size Chalice, 6 1/2" Paten, Host Jar, 2 Cruets. So, we have officially grouped them into what we call the "Eucharist Set." Please see Eucharist Set . The individual item total would be $140.00, but as an introductory price we are offering the 5 piece set at $117.50. The Neuhaus Eucharist Set is a special order; Otoe and Memorial are within the standard line.

1-24-10Happy New Year! This time of year, so soon after Christmas, always sneaks up on us. It is the time when we are making pottery for Lent and Easter. Lent begins on February 17th this year (Ash Wednesday), and Maundy Thursday will be on April 1st. This is the time to order any Upper Room pottery! See Upper Room Set. During Lent, many churches prefer to use the Memorial pattern which you will see on this page. It is rustic, earthy, very one-of-a-kind, and seems to convey a sense of history. You can imagine Jesus serving the first communion from such pieces in the Upper Room. Please order as early as possible if you will be needing multiple sets. With only one potter, there is a limit to the number of pieces we can produce in time for Upper Room presentations.

We hold close in prayer all those who share the Lord's Supper, joining Christians together throughout the world. And we are so thankful for all those who have chosen to use our pottery for communion over the years. It is an honor we don't take lightly; in fact we are constantly amazed and humbled by the gift of this ministry.

Here is the message we received:
"My communion set has served me very well. My husband made this box for the set and it travels very well. If any one is interested the box has a slot for server, a holder for wine cruet, a slot for chalice and an indent for Paten. All travels and nothing gets lost or broken. My linens are placed on top. It has a latch to close and a handle. He made dovetails joinery and finished it with a high gloss. Please let me know if it interests you he can make them. Thanks Lil and Al"
